Underground lifts
Compoman is experienced developer and producer of underground lifts for mobile and static compactors. Underground lifts have hydraulic drives and they can be fitted to demanding installation locations.
Effective waste collecting solution to preserve a beautiful city environment
Preserve your beautiful city environment by using Compoman underground waste storage products complete with lifting units for mobile and static compactors.
Concealing waste collection holders underground is an aesthetic solution for city centre locations where a high density of people creates lots of waste in a short time, such as farmers’ markets, city centre squares and pedestrian precincts.
When above ground an aesthetically pleasing garbage bin which blends into the environment but doubles up as a large holder underground
Placing the waste holder underground helps avoid the unpleasant smell of collected waste during the summer. An integral ozone device keeps the spreading of any smells from the collected waste to a minimum.
A low-power heating device prevents the waste holder contents from freezing during winter. Waste held in an underground holder is not accessible either to unwelcome persons such as vandals or to scavenging animals such as rats, birds, cats or dogs.
Underground unit is adjusted and equipped to location needs
One underground lifting unit can hold a mobile compactor for one or several types of waste.
Number of waste types in one mobile compactor depends on location needs and volumes of different waste types.
The Compoman unit can be built to have a static compactor underground and its container moving on the lift up and down. The unit with a static compactor is especially suited for locations with vacuum systems.
Measurements and volumes of the units can differ, and structural changes are made according to specific needs and demands.
Underground units can also be used as a waste transfer station
A unit with a static compactor can be fitted with several containers and an automatic container shifting system. Containers are thus changed automatically in front of the compactor. In this way underground unit can serve as an underground waste transfer station.
Ingress of waste is controlled via a lock and magnetic card
Waste drops into an underground compactor via the garbage bin placed above it. The bin lid and bin bottom can be opened only by using a special key which resembles a magnetic card.
The key should be kept in the possession of the person(s) responsible for the safety and operation of the underground unit. The responsible person(s) will empty the waste from bin to container.
Compactor or container is moving up and down on the platform
The waste container or mobile compactor is placed inside a metal frame on a vertically moving platform. Vertical movement of the platform is conducted by hydraulic mechanism and the system normally has two 5.5 kW electric motors.
Movements of the platform are controlled with buttons, a console or a wireless system is also possible.
Compacting and filling rate are controlled automatically
The compactor has an optical sensor, causing the ram to compact immediately the sensor sees waste ingressing.
When container is full, a signal is given to the control via a red light which may be supported by sending emails or SMS-messages to four or more different email addresses or cell phone numbers.
Vacuum systems and underground lifts
Lift unit with static compactor and container e.g. for vacuum systems
A vacuum system needs a static compactor so that vacuum pipes always remain connected.
The static compactor placed underground is especially well suited for connecting with vacuum systems.
Only the container is placed inside a metal frame on a vertically moving platform. When the lift goes down then container locks and prepares for compaction automatically.

One or two types of waste in the same lift?
Lift unit with suitable mobile compactor for one type of waste
With the one-bin one-waste-type system on the ground, one garbage bin which can be used with a key card is utilised, and the lifting unit is faced with the same paving as the surrounding area.
The mobile compactor is built specially for the underground unit, is located under ground and can rise to the surface when emptying is required.
An example of an underground unit in Mikkeli Central Square in Finland, using a blue waste compactor can be seen in the picture.
Lift unit with suitable mobile compactor for two types of waste
A two-bin and two-waste-types system unit on the ground, where there are two aesthetically-pleasing garbage bins and lift unit is paved in order to fit the surrounding area.
The mobile compactor, built specially for the underground unit, has a wet (organic) waste compartment and general waste compartment.
An underground unit with a green waste compactor located in Gävle Central Market, Sweden can be seen in the picture.
Underground lift types
- One type of waste – mobile compactor on the lift
- One type of waste – fixed static compactor and its container on the lift
- One type of waste – mobile compactor on the lift with access from under ground too
- Two types of waste – mobile compactor on the lift
- Two types of waste – mobile compactor on upper lift floor and container from static on lower lift floor
Two-storey-lift unit with static and mobile compactor
For demanding locations with the need to compact waste from different sources there is a possibility to place two compactors on each other.
In the system on the pictures there is static compactor with container below and mobile compactor above it.
Lower unit – static with vacuum system
A vacuum system needs a static compactor so that vacuum pipes always remain connected.
The static compactor placed underground is especially well suited for connecting with vacuum systems.
At the bottom of this system is static compactor that is connected with vacuum system pipes through separator.
Loading of the static compactor goes through separator.
The container to the static compactor is moving up and down on the lower lift platform.
Upper unit – portable with manual loading from above
Upper compactor is a portable compactor moving up and down on the upper lift platform.
In this solution the portable compactor is loaded manually from above through garbage bin.
Lifting system moves both storages up to be taken out for emptying.
Lift moves container or portable compactor to the street level and then they are taken out to dump site.
Taking out the container or portable compactor happens on the same level for both.
